VANDALS who twice broke into primary school storage sheds, dumping toilet rolls on the nearby sports field, have been branded "sad people".

Gordon Wainwright, St John's CE Primary School headteacher, says the Kidderminster school will now have to find at least £1,000 to put right the damage and replace cleaning products.

Buying new secure storage containers could also add to the costs.

The school's caretaker discovered the first break-in at two metal sheds next to the main school building before pupils arrived for lessons on Thursday, February 21.

Vandals had forced the padlocked sliding doors off their runners and taken the contents. One contained cleaning products and toiletries and the other PE and sport equipment Cleaning fluid, bin bags and toilet rolls were then scattered on the school field near two mobile classrooms by Jelleyman Close. Some of the toilet rolls had been urinated on.

Staff worked to clean up the mess before pupils arrived while, last week, head of PE Jane Graves spent two days sorting sports equipment.

Vandals struck again, however, between last Sunday and Monday, forcing the shed doors and dumping items over the school field, near the rear of the main building, by Baxter College.

Mr Wainwright said the break-ins, which he blamed on youths, were disheartening to staff who had worked hard since the change to primary school status in September.

He added: "Our time has been diverted and we will have to spend resources, which should go on the children's education, preventing crime."

A school caretaker is set to move into a bungalow on the school site this Saturday.
