DAZZLING dancers, cheerleaders and go-karts are on the bill for a big Kidderminster community bash aimed at bringing people together.

Event organisers are saying Wyre Forest's summer starts in St George's Park, Radford Avenue, with the first Community Link Multicultural Event, on Sunday, March 30.

Children and grown-ups will have more than enough to keep them occupied with face-painting, storytelling, bouncy castles, food tasting and even a fitness workshop.

Horsefair, Broadwaters and Greenhill Partnership is working hard to get everything in place for the big day, which starts at 1pm and runs until 5pm.

Events are running in the park and at nearby St George's Church Hall, St George's Social Club, and the Children's Centre, at St George's CE Primary School.

The day's hands-on activities are divided into zones representing different continents such as Europe, Africa, and Asia, with each zone in a different location.

In the church hall, the focus is on Europe and Asia, with North and South America at the Children's Centre, and African and Australian influences on show at the social club.

Storyteller Lenny Alsop will be enthralling youngsters with traditional Aboriginal and African tales in the social club, along with painting, a Kenyan craft stall and mask workshop.

Radford Avenue will be shut to vehicles, between noon and 6pm, so a performance arena can be set up in the street.

In the arena, cheerleaders, samba and Chinese lion dancers, and fitness coaches will be encouraging event-goers to shake a leg.

There will also be music from the Boys and Girls Brigade Band.

For food-lovers, there are stalls where visitors can sample Bangladeshi and Polish cuisine, and there will be the traditional burgers and hotdogs courtesy of the Cubs and Scouts.

A fire engine from Kidderminster Fire Station will be on show, as will Severn Area Rescue Association's powerboat, together with information stalls including one on how to get involved looking after St George's Park.

Throughout the day there are mini go-karts for younger children, fairground rides, a football kick-about in the multi-use games area, and a fun box for in-line skaters and skateboarders.

Sarah Turner, event co-organiser, said: "It's going to be a fabulous family day out."

Entrance is free but there will be a charge for some activities.
