WET and windy weather has failed to deter visitors from flocking to today's re-opening of the Severn Valley Railway.
The railway was open throughout its 16-mile length for the first time since torrential rain and flooding caused extensive damage to the line last June and July.
Up until today, only the Kidderminster to Bewdley and Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade sections have been open.
John Leach, SVR marketing manager said: "Today has been really great and we have had a good reaction from everyone coming on to the trains.
"It is a great day for our local communities too."
He added he felt a few people had been put off by the forecast of rain over the Easter weekend but urged people not to deter from visiting them on such an exciting event.
"What is great about this is that you can enjoy the scenery in the comfort of the train and you are undercover.
"If you decide to get off at Highley, which has a new £5 million facility, The Engine House, for visitors to enjoy, that is undercover too, so you can still enjoy a great day out."
The restoration work cost £3.55 million, with Advantage West Midlands and the European Regional Development Fund making major contributions.
A public appeal also raised £575,000, which Mr Leach said was "awesome".
Five steam engines will be making 10 return trips during Easter in the busiest time of the year for the railway.
