THE man who died in a collision between a car and a van between Kidderminster and Stourport this morning was pronouced dead at the scene.
The collision happened at the traffic lights where Oldington Lane meets Minster Road and Stourport Road, just before the dual carriageway.
A total of five ambulances, two doctors, an incident support officer and a senior manager were sent to the scene.
According to ambulance chiefs, there were four people in the Rover 200 and one person in the white transit van. Firefighters earlier reported there were five occupants in the car and two in the van West Midlands Ambulance Service Divisional Commander (Worcestershire), Nick Harris, said: "The car had suffered significant damage to the passenger side, the van to the front end and windscreen.
"The car had three men and a woman in it, all believed to be in their 20s. The van had a single man in it.
"One of the men in the car was, sadly, confirmed dead at the scene. A second man suffered very serious injuries to his head and chest and was unconscious.
"Ambulance staff worked with the doctors to stabilise his condition before taking him on blue lights to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, where a trauma team was on standby.
"The woman was semi-conscious after suffering a head injury. She was also taken to Worcester Royal. The third man was trapped for over half an hour. Ambulance crews worked with firefighters to release him before he too was taken to the same hospital.
"The van driver had an eye injury after his head hit the windscreen. He was also taken to the same hospital.
"This was a complex job that required good partnership working between all of the emergency services."
