WYRE Forest bird lovers will soon be able to get a glimpse of a pergrine falcon nesting in a church spire in Worcester.

The falcon - the world's fastest animal - proved it's a record-setting creature by beating RSPB officers to the start line by laying its eggs just days before the organisation was ready to announce its peregrine viewing project in partnership with the Worcester City Council.

The RSPB and the city council have confirmed thanks to footage from a live nest camera that the female peregrine laid its first egg on March 26 in a specially built nesting box at the top of Worcester's St Andrew's Church spire, and it's expected that she will lay up to three more before she starts to incubate them.

Ross Lawford, RSPB peregrine project officer from Worcester says: "This is really fantastic news and having followed these peregrines for several years I can't help feeling like a proud dad myself.

"The upcoming peregrine-viewing season promises to be exciting for residents in Worcester who can come by the RSPB's marquee from Wednesday, April 9 and find out firsthand what the peregrines are up to."

The two peregrines became the city's top celebrity couple last autumn when hundreds of residents in Worcester got up close to the peregrine pair by looking at the birds through the telescopes that the RSPB put up next to St Andrew's Spire, off Dean's Way.

The RSPB and the city council have partnered up this year to enthuse as many residents as possible about the peregrines, which have shared their city with them for at least three years.

From next Wednesday (April 9), the RSPB will be on hand to show people the birds through telescopes and tell them more about the lives of Worcester's peregrines.

Look out for the RSPB's marquee by Guildhall Buildings on High Street.
