AN emergency care assistant at West Midlands Ambulance Service has raised more than £1,000 for a charity that helped people during last summer's floods.
Rob Wallace, who lives in Kidderminster and is based at Tipton Ambulance Station, walked 100 miles from Arley to Sharpness, near Chepstow, along footpaths on the banks of the River Severn, known as the Severn Way.
Mr Wallace, a volunteer with the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) was joined by two junior volunteers for the walk.
He said: "It was thoroughly enjoyable. In some areas, we had to climb on to higher ground to avoid some flooding and we had to walk along part of the A38 for the same reason.
"We had lots of support and encouragement on the way, particularly along the Gloucestershire Towpath, where people on their barges cheered us on.
"A highlight was crossing the Severn Bridge with truckers tooting their horns in support. Now, I'm nursing blisters upon blisters."
SARA is a voluntary body active in the River Severn estuary and its upper reaches. It helps the emergency services in search and rescue.
The money raised will go towards a new building to house the charitiy's vehicles and for training.
