A COMMUNITY event set up to bring people together was so successful the organisers want to stage it again next year.
More than 1,000 people turned up for the first Community Link Multi-cultural Event in St George's Park, Kidderminster, on Sunday.
The bash was organised by the Horsefair, Broadwaters and Greenhill Partnership, with help from a dedicated team of 50 volunteers, including many from the Oldington and Foley Park Pathfinder and funding from several other groups.
Mel Bailey, Pathfinder co-ordinator, said: "Everybody we have spoken to has said it must not be a one-off. We are hoping there will be something similar next year."
The event had a global theme and was aimed at giving families an enjoyable day out.
The crowds were wowed by outdoor performances from the colourful Chinese lion dancers, samba dancers and cheerleaders from The Glades Leisure Centre.
Youngsters had plenty to keep them busy, with a junior go-karting ride and football kickabout but the biggest draw of all was the ice-skating rink. Many visitors followed their noses to the park, drawn by the delicious aromas of foods drifting from the Polish and Bangladeshi taster stalls.
The Scouts got in on the cooking action, serving up a tasty barbecue, while the Boys and Girls Brigade Band entertained during the day. Children were enthralled by tales of storyteller, Lenny Alsop, who was "like the Pied Piper", according to Mrs Bailey, holding the youngsters' attention throughout.
