WORK to regenerate Stourport will result in the town becoming a tourist Mecca of Wyre Forest, according to Stourport's Mayor.
Mayor Mike Salter, was speaking in response to a call by the Town Council to congratulate Stourport Forward, British Waterways and other agencies for their work in the town.
British Waterways and Stourport Forward Market Towns Initiative recently celebrated scooping top honours at this year's Waterways Renaissance Awards, run by The Waterways Trust and British Urban Regeneration Association.
Independent Health Concern councillor, James Parish, said these awards recognised the development to meet National heritage standards and were a "promising first step on a very long ladder".
Conservative councillor, David Little, said: "The improvements over the last three years in the basins have been tremendous. The work there should certainly be commended."
Mayor, councillor Mike Salter, added: "It's going to take time but we have a town to be proud of. Their efforts have been immense for the town. In years to come Stourport will be the tourist Mecca of Wyre Forest."
