A STOURPORT woman who runs a nursery from her own home is raising money to expand so she can support more disabled children.
Rebecca McClean, aged 29, opened the Special Steps nursery at her Windermere Way home in September 2021.
It's a childminding service exclusively for children with special needs and disabilities. However, Rebecca has quickly filled all her spaces and is now fully booked until September 2023.
The early years educator said: "To try to help to meet the rising demand for a specialist provision for children with these needs, of which there are no other of this kind in Worcestershire, I need to expand.
"As some of you may or may not know recently two Special School Nursery assessment classes closed, therefore leaving me with even more parents asking for spaces".
She said she wants to rent out the Cornerstone Rooms on Minister Road, which is part of Stourport Baptist Church.
She wants to develop a new garden area in the car park using artificial grass and fences to make it safe, suitable outdoor equipment, ramp access for children with physical disabilities, and a sensory room.
Moving to the new location means she will be able to double the capacity of the nursery.
She has started a crowdfunder with a target of raising £15,000 to help her dream become and reality. It has so far raised more than £3,000. People can donate to the fundraiser via Just Giving.
Reacting to the donations raised, Rebecca added: "It's brilliant. Everybody has been really really supportive.
"It would mean everything to me, but it means more to the children
"I will register as a not-for-profit business meaning all money, after costs are met, will be reinvested in equipment for the children's enrichment.
"This is something that is very important to me as early intervention is key for children with special needs and disabilities".
