A CONCERT in memory of a much-loved founder member of a Kidderminster ladies’ choir who died from cancer raised £2,000 for research into the devastating disease.

The Valentines teamed up with Kidderminster Male Choir and the Starlight Singers in memory of Judy Watkins and in celebration of what would have been her 80th birthday.

Judy died last year and her husband John, of 37 years, a member of the male choir, organised the concert at Kidderminster Town Hall, compered by legendary comedian and children’s TV Crackerjack host Don Mclean on Friday, October 29.

Mr Watkins said: “Don was on brilliant form – he was the icing on top of a brilliant music cake. There was a real party atmosphere and I had some lovely feedback.”

The £2,000 will go to the Wyre Forest Fundraising Committee of Cancer Research UK, and committee chairman Peter Tomlinson, former presenter of another ground-breaking children’s TV programme, Tiswas, performed the opening introductions.
