A SPECIAL Education Needs and Disability (SEND) department at a Wolverley school has been nominated for a top award.
The SEND department at Heathfield Knoll School is up for the Special Education Needs (SENCO) Award as part of the Worcestershire Education Awards.
Parent Lorraine Fellows, who nominated the department, said it has made a "positive difference" to the life of her son Ben, who has social anxiety disorder.
Praising the school, she said: "They devised a bespoke program of GCSE studies to enable him to access lessons with his peers as he was able to, to work independently at times with TA support in The Haven (LD support base) and enabled trusted relationships to be built with his teachers and TAs.
"The SEN department have shown consistent care and a willingness to listen and adapt to best meet Ben's needs. Ben is thriving academically and emotionally and overcoming his social anxiety disorder.
"I am very grateful we have found HKS for our own son and hope they go on to provide this for many other pupils".
Deputy headteacher Emma White said: "At Heathfield Knoll school we pride ourselves on supporting every individual to ensure that each child or young person achieves their potential and is fully supported in order to meet their goals and aspirations.
"We are a small, supportive school with a family feel and inclusive ethos, where staff and children from all parts of the school know each other well. Our class sizes allow each child to have an individual education with a personalised approach. Small classes help children to become the very best that they can be and allow us scope to celebrate diversity and individuality.
"I am very proud of the SEND department and Connect and the wonderful staff who work tirelessly to support the children in their care".
The Worcestershire Education Awards in partnership with the University of Worcester has 12 categories and runs across all of our Worcestershire titles – the Worcester News, Malvern Gazette, Evesham Journal, Bromsgrove & Droitwich Advertiser, Redditch Advertiser and Kidderminster Shuttle.
The closing date for nominations is Monday, February 13.
The awards will culminate in a black tie event on Thursday, April 20, at 7pm at the Abbey Hotel, Great Malvern.
