Kidderminster is home to one of the most remarkable pieces of abstract art in the West Midlands; and certainly one of the largest!
William Mitchell, world-renowned artist and sculptor was a huge success in the 1960s and 1970s.
Carving abstract designs into concreate, to shape a uniform surface into something new is incredible. Kidderminster is very fortunate to be able to honour this talent with one of his most influential pieces, an astonishing 320m long relief, which now holds a Grade II listed status.
It can be found along the wall from Worcester Cross to Worcester Road Ring Road.
To find out how William Mitchell came to build this, come along to Michael Loftus’ talk “Mr Mitchell’s Wonderful Wall” at the Museum of Carpet on the 25th of May at 10:30am.
To book tickets, visit www.museumofcarpet.org, call 01562 69028 or visit the Museum reception.
