A PLAN to build more than a hundred new homes near Stourport will go ahead after previously being refused.

Land promoter Gladman Developments appealed against decisions made by both Wyre Forest and Malvern District Councils to reject a planning application for up to 145 dwellings on land off Areley Common.

A public enquiry was held earlier this year and the project has now been given the green light following successful appeals.

Tom Gilbert-Wooldridge, an inspector appointed by the secretary of state, highlighted in a report that both councils confirmed that some of the reasons for refusal and main issues had been resolved before and during the inquiry.

These were issued relating to biodiversity and drainage in both appeals, along with matters relating to archaeology in the Malvern District Council appeal.

A hundred residents objected to the plans on Wyre Forest District Council's planning website. Some objectors highlighted that the area doesn't have the infrastructure to accommodate the development, including roads and local services.

They feared it would exacerbate traffic congestion for residents alongside the previously approved Pearl Lane housing development.

In a post on Linkedin, the land promotor said: "Gladman is pleased to announce that following a Public Inquiry in March this year, our appeal for up to 145 dwellings on Land off Areley Common, Astley Cross, Stourport on Severn (Malvern Hills and Wyre Forest District Councils) has been allowed.

"The appeal explored the issues of landscape, mineral safeguarding and housing land supply, as well as the site’s location, which spanned two local authority areas, and the corresponding implications for the planning balance".

The firm thanked the team who worked to achieve planning permission and congratulated the landowners.
