A FORMER butler to Queen Elizabeth II who has also worked with “countless” celebrities is set to open a new restaurant in Stourport.
Barry Fairhurst, aged 47, is launching his Chataigne restaurant on Bridge Street this weekend, inspired by his upbringing and his illustrious career working in some of the country’s finest establishments.
Mr Fairhurst, who hails from the town, has moved all over the country throughout his career in the hospitality industry.
He has returned to the town and hopes to create a "memorable and luxurious dining experience" for guests at his contemporary restaurant.
His expertise in the past has led him to work with celebrities, including the Beckhams and Madonna, heads of state, and with the British royal family as a butler to her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
He said working for the beloved monarch was “a great honour and very enjoyable at the same time”.
He's also worked at five-star hotels, Michelin restaurants, and was more recently head butler at stately home Weston Park in Staffordshire.
The new Stourport establishment will offer a contemporary menu featuring seafood, wild and free-range meat dishes, as well as vegetable dishes.
Mr Fairhurst added: "This is a very exciting new venture for me, and an opportunity to present contemporary modern food and drink collections that showcase the finest ingredients and champion independent suppliers and producers in stylish surroundings.
“And to celebrate where I began my hospitality journey from, and to now proudly return to.”
The site of the new restaurant was previously a tea room, and before that was also once home to an ice cream shop and a furniture store.
The new restaurant Chataigne is set to open on Saturday, September 23.
