WEST Mercia Police have opened an investigation into crowd trouble during the Stourport Swifts vs Worcester City Isuzu FA Vase clash at Walshes Meadow on Saturday.
The game was halted in the second-half whilst police intervened following disorder behind the goal where a large amount of supporters were situated.
The police have confirmed that no one was arrested following the disorder and no one injured but that an investigation has been opened.
"A policing operation took place yesterday (Saturday 10 February) inside and outside Stourport Swifts FC’s stadium during their FA Vase fixture against Worcester City FC," a West Mercia Police statement read.
"During the match a disorder broke out amongst a group of fans inside the stadium, which led to the match having to be paused.
"No one was arrested following the disorder and no one injured. Officers have now launched an investigation into the incident to understand what happened.
Inspector Lisa Hornberger, said: "We deal robustly with anyone that looks to commit offences at football matches, and an investigation into the incident is now taking place.
"We worked closely with Stourport Swifts FC to ensure that the vast majority of home, and away fans, had a safe and enjoyable experience, but unfortunately, a minority spoilt that for the majority of fans who attended."
City provided the following statement to the Worcester News: "Yesterday was an amazing occasion for both our clubs which will live long in the memory and which will not be spoilt by the actions of a very small minority. We will be working closely with our friends at Swifts to establish the facts and then act accordingly."
Stourport commented: "The game yesterday was a massive event for both clubs which has created memories for lots of different reasons.
"It's a shame that we are having to talk about the action of a very small minority of supporters but rest assured, we will be working with our friends at Worcester City to help the police in their investigation into the matter."
