A Kidderminster school has announced it will take part in the Great Waddle of Worcester for charity.

Heathfield Knoll School has announced plans to take part in the event, organised by St Richard's Hospice.

As well as participating in the walk, the school will participate in a variety of activities, including a competition among pupils to design their very own penguin to be showcased in Worcester City Centre as part of the Wild in Art display.

The school has set a goal of raising £1,500 for the hospice as part of its involvement.

Chris Rawles, the school's assistant headteacher, said: "We recently held a successful 'dress like a penguin' launch day just before the half-term break.

"During this event, we raised £568 towards our £1500 target for St Richard's Hospice and engaged in various enjoyable activities throughout the day.

"The year one pupils emerged as winners of the best-dressed competition, they spent time looking at penguin-related topics in class, and will be class owners of our penguin mascot, ‘Heathfield’ for the first week back after half term."

He added: "‘Heathfield’ will interact with all our pupils over the coming months, serving as a conduit for imparting crucial pastoral and academic lessons, as well as being the muse for a long-term form group photo competition.”

In the coming months, the school will adopt the tagline #bemorepenguin, following which they will focus on promoting five key character strengths: curiosity, friendship, kindness, resilience, and perseverance.

This is in collaboration with Amazing People Schools, which provides training strength workshops.

In addition to fundraising events and house competitions, the school will organise conservation lessons and character strength workshops.

The series of activities will culminate with a visit to their penguin display in Worcester in early September.
