A pub in Stourport is set to host a special fundraising event in memory of a "bubbly" and "caring" 21-year-old woman who tragically lost her life.

The Port House on Bridge Street is holding "Grace's Night" to raise funds for the family of a former barmaid, Grace Gardner, who died at a home on Wassell Drive in Bewdley last month.

The event has been organised by Chris Neale, Amiee James and the rest of the team and is set to take place on Saturday, May 25.

There will be live music, a disco, face painting and a raffle with two tickets to see Peter Kay on October 7 set to be auctioned off.

Katie McPhilimey, Marketing Director for Davenports, which owns The Port House, said: “The general manager of the pub, Chris, and his team really wanted to do something to honour Grace’s memory and help raise funds.

"They hope that the event planned on May 25 will be attended by lots of people who know Grace as well as regulars of the pub.

"Disaronno was Grace’s favourite drink, so a portion of each sale of our 1829 cocktail that features Disaronno made on the day will also be added to the pot of monies raised.

"We hope the day is a great success, and we hope that the day delivers a little comfort to all who knew her including the team and customers of The Port House."

The event starts at 5pm and is open for everyone to come and remember Grace as well as to provide comfort to all those who knew her.

West Mercia Police have launched a murder investigation into Grace's death after they were called to the scene at around 5.10pm on Tuesday, April 23.

The Port House previously paid tribute to the much-loved young woman, who worked at the pub until December last year, and said that she was still "fondly mentioned by people either side of the bar in conversations."

Ms McPhilimey said: "The team at The Port House are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Grace, both staff and customers alike loved her bubbly personality

"The team at The Port House and Davenports Brewery send their thoughts and prayers to the family of Grace at this extremely sad time."

A GoFundMe has also been set up in Grace's memory by her great aunt Dee Ambler and her daughter Carla Sendell to help support her devastated family.

The fundraiser has already raised almost £600 towards the £1,500 target and can be found visiting www.gofundme.com/f/grace-iona-gardner

Ms Sendell said: "As a family, we are all distraught by the passing of Grace. Grace was such a bubbly, loving and caring young woman who absolutely adored children and she had a heart of gold.

"Grace had her whole life ahead of her and will truly be missed by so many people. Sleep tight Grace we all love and miss you."
