The community came together this week to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

Photos have captured the special events held in Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley to commemorate and honour those who fought and lost their lives during the Normandy landings in June 1944.

A host of services were held at St Mary and All Saints Church in Kidderminster on Thursday (June 6) with a town crier proclamation by Stephen Day heard at 7.55am.

A bagpipes tribute to William (Bill) Millin was also played at 8am by Craig Swarbrick, the Celtic piper and standard bearer supported by the Kidderminster Branch of the Royal British Legion.

From midday, there was a remembrance service held by The Venerable Hayward Osbourne before bell ringing by St Mary’s Society of Change Ringers and friends and another town crier proclamation and bagpipes tribute in the evening.

The Kidderminster waterfall was also operational to commemorate the anniversary.

In Bewdley, there was a service at Bewdley Museum which was led by Rev Canon Tim Williams and Rev Melissa Beynon.

There were also refreshments served at St Anne's Church following the service.

Philling’s in Load Street also offered a wartime ration box to mark the occasion.

Stourport Town Council also held a full schedule of D-Day events including the town mayor raising the 'Flag of Peace' in Villeneuve-le-Roi Gardens.

Schools were also encouraged to hold an assembly, with a specially written poem “D-Day Heroes” by Roy Palmer, which was read at 11am.

In the afternoon, Eat, Street, Repeat hosted food vendors in the War Memorial Park with live entertainment on offer in the evening as well as a fancy dress and shop window competition.

Towns across Wyre Forest also joined the rest of the UK in lighting a beacon to commemorate the anniversary.
