THE fire brigade has provided an update following a severe fire which ripped through homes in the Horsefair.

The serious blaze broke out an a caravan before spreading to homes on Eddy Road in Kidderminster on Sunday night (June 9).

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that four homes were affected by the fire and that no one was injured.

Nearby homes were evacuated on the night and residents were asked to shut their windows and doors. Eddy Road and a part of Queen Street was cordoned off by police.

In an update, the fire service said that crews finally left the scene of this incident at 4.2pm on Monday (June 10).

They also said there is no detail on the cause of the fire yet.

A spokesperson said: "This was a complex and challenging incident involving multiple houses.

"A fire investigation is ongoing, and FI teams and colleagues from West Mercia Police are working closely to determine the cause of fire but there is no detail on that yet.

Five Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews attended the fire, as well as the aerial ladder platform from Worcester, the environmental protection unit from Tenbury Wells, the service drone from Ledbury and the incident support unit from Droitwich, in addition to West Midlands Fire Service crews from Brierley Hill and Stourbridge and a Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service crew from Kinver.

The fire service added: "A fire had spread from a caravan to four two-storey properties with one property 100 per cent involved in fire and another 70 per cent involved in fire with the other two suffering smoke damage".

Residents, who did not wish to named, spoke of their shock after witnessing the fire.

One nearby resident said he could feel the heat from the blaze from his home.

He said: "It was massive. When we came out initially, the back of the caravan was on fire.

"We heard a couple of explosions - not massive ones. It was loud but you couldn't see anything.

"My son hadn't seen anything like that before".

Another resident who saw the fire said he had to tell neighbours to shut windows as smoke billowed from the homes.

He said: "It was a bit scary to be honest. It was so close".

One woman who witnessed last night's fire described it as "really scary."

She said: "I didn't expect to see that on a Sunday night.

"It was horrible watching everyone move their cars and carry their dogs".

Another woman who witnessed the blaze said it was "horrifying" to see a house so close go up in flames.

She said: "They have lost everything - absolutely everything.

"There were lots of bystanders.

"It's a good job it wasn't windy because it could have gone way up the road".

The ambulance service was called to the incident but were stood down.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “We were called by the fire service at 9.41pm to a fire at the junction of Queen Street and Eddy Road in Kidderminster.

"One ambulance, two paramedic officers, the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene.

"Upon arrival, no patients were found and we were stood down as our assistance was no longer required.”
