A plan to expand the existing car park at a popular golf club in Bewdley has been submitted to the council.

The proposal, which was submitted by Bewdley Pines Gold Club, would see the car park expanded to accommodate an extra 39 spaces in addition to the current 52 spaces.

The club said it experiences high volumes of members during the busy spring and summer periods together with visitors attending functions, weddings and open events.

There is a temporary overflow car park, but the plan for permanent additional space aims to meet increasing visitor demand and provide the amenities needed for clients.

In the planning statement on the Wyre Forest District Council website, a spokesperson on behalf of Bewdley Pines Golf Club said: "The existing car park provides parking for 52 vehicles and during busy periods this allocation is not sufficient.

"There is a temporary overflow car park located to the North of the clubhouse which can facilitate approximately 15 to 20 vehicles, however, access to this area is via an unmade road to the rear of the clubhouse and close to one of the greens of the golf course.

"Whilst this temporary car park serves a purpose it is still insufficient and considered inappropriate from a health and safety point of view as passing vehicles present a danger to the public.

"When the car park is full visitors and members tend to park on one side of the driveway which removes the ability to allow vehicles to pass in both directions."

The golf club is used as an 18-hole golf course with a clubhouse providing changing facilities, a locker room, bar, restaurant, function room for weddings and events and administration offices.

The existing car park is located to the south of the clubhouse and it is set to be expanded on land to the west.

The current site contains some trees but they will be retained where possible within the proposed car park area.

The proposed access from the existing car park to the new car park has been carefully selected to make sure there is sufficient space between protected trees to provide access without compromising them.
