YOUNG athletes bagged medals at a prestigious finals after also starring at the county schools’ championships.

A large proportion of the Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club members who competed regionally met the standards required to represent Herefordshire and Worcestershire at the Mason Trophy Inter Counties.

Ted Freeman then went on to bag a silver in the junior boys’ hammer in Stoke and bronze in the javelin at the same age group.

Seb Hubbard claimed bronze in the intermediate boys’ 400m — after winning the county title — as did Amelia Jones, representing the West Midlands, in the intermediate girls' 3,000m while Nicole Bevan was fifth in the 800m.

The Hereford and Worcester County Schools’ Championships had previously been held at Stourport’s Alan Moreton Track — the home of Kidderminster and Stourport.

The host club’s middle-distance squad, coached by Patrick Bevan, performed well.

Nicole Bevan finished second in the under 15s 1,500m, Harry Load won the under 15s 3,000m, William Kennedy got second in the under 17s 3,000m and Liam Hill managed second in the under 17s 1,500m.

The KSAC sprinters also had an exceptional day.

Georgia Kiernan finished third in the under 15s 300m and Hubbard won the under 17s 400m while Harriet Williams was second in the under 17s 100m and 200m with a 100m personal best on the way.

Also making the grade to represent the two counties in the Mason Trophy at Stoke last Saturday were Freeman, Emma Ross and Hattie Richards.

The competition is for school students from years eight, nine, 10 and 11 who have excelled at county schools’ championships.

It also involved competitors from Greater Manchester, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, West Midlands, Cheshire, Warwickshire and Staffordshire.
