A GP surgery in Kidderminster has announced changes to its car parking system after patients were finding it difficult to find a space.

Kidderminster Medical Centre said they were introducing an Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system after patients raised concerns over people inappropriately using the car park to access to the town centre.

This has been making it difficult for patients to park on the site.

The changes will come into force from Monday, July 15.

In a post on Facebook, Kidderminster Medical Centre said: "Patients have told us that it is often difficult to park at our site due to people using the car park who are not visiting our surgery.

"To resolve this, a new car parking system is coming into effect at Kidderminster Medical Centre from July 15, 2024.

"The new Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system photographs the registration of all vehicles that enter and leave the site.

"To avoid a fine, you will be required to enter your vehicle registration into the system on arrival."

Kidderminster Medical Centre had previously urged motorists who park on their premises to "avoid local car park charges" to stop and branded it "unacceptable behaviour."

The surgery put out a previous Facebook post earlier this year warning about the risk to patients who were missing appointments. They also said staff could be late for work if they were unable to find a space.

The surgery said the check-in screen to register number plates will be located on level one and level two and inside Kidderminster Pharmacy.

Patients and visitors will also be able to be dropped off and picked up and taxis are free.

The ANPR system will not impact parking for registered Blue Badge users and the disabled bays will be warden monitored daily.
