Police have reopened a number of roads in Kidderminster after "suspicious items" were found at an address on Stourport Road.

In an update last night (Sunday, June 30), West Mercia Police said the 100-metre cordon has now been lifted after the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team had made the area safe.

All the roads that were previously closed on Saturday (June 29) have now been reopened.

The cordon was originally in place from Goldthorn Road to Tesco Express with the store remaining accessible.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "The cordon on Stourport Road in Kidderminster has now been lifted following the discovery of a number of suspicious items at a property there yesterday (Saturday, June 29).

"The area has now been made safe by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), and people will see a continued police presence around the address as we ensure the area remains safe and continue with our searches.

"All roads that were closed due to the cordon have now reopened.

"We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding whilst emergency services made the area safe."

The road was closed for almost two days with many of the residents in the area being evacuated.

This included resident Julian Phillips, of Stourport Road, who said: "I was at work yesterday but my wife and kids were evacuated about 8pm.

"I have checked on site this morning (Sunday June 30) and our house is in the outer cordon so we can go back in.

"There is still a mandatory exclusion zone between Reservoir Rd and Beauchamp Avenue I believe."

Officers said Wyre Forest District Council had arranged emergency accommodation and a rest shelter for those without anywhere to go on Saturday night.

Despite the roads reopening and residents returning to their homes, there will be a heavy police presence in the area today (Monday, July 1) whilst police continue to search the address.

A 51-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
