AN earlier police incident in Kidderminster in which a man was arrested was determined to be a mental health crisis – it has been confirmed.

Police officers were seen detaining a man outside Tesco Express earlier today at around 11.30am.

Officers were called to reports that a man had been assaulted.

The incident, however, has since been deemed a mental health issue – with support offered to the man who was detained.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said of the drama: “We were called to Tesco Express on Stourport Road in Kidderminster at 11.35am following a report of an assault where a man had been pushed into a door.

“Officers attended and a man was arrested on suspicion of assault, however after his arrest it became clear that he was suffering from a mental health crisis and appropriate arrangements were made to ensure he was supported by the most appropriate agency.”
