An inspirational Stourport school has won a countywide award for its "exemplary" promotion of physical education.

St Bartholomew's CE Primary, the Worcestershire School of the Year finalist, is celebrating winning the Whole School Improvement title in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Primary PE and Sport Premium Awards 2023/24.

Alexandra Repton, primary PE and sport premium lead for Worcestershire, said: "Your commitment to promoting physical education and fostering a culture of wellness within your school community is exemplary.

"This recognition highlights the outstanding efforts you have made in utilising the PE and Sport Premium funding to enhance the overall well-being and academic success of your pupils.

"Your achievement not only reflects positively on your school but also serves as an inspiration to others in the education community."

The award recognises the promotion of PE to help boost student wellbeing and academic success with the Severn Academic Educational Trust saying the recognition was very "well-deserved".

Ian James, executive headteacher, said: "We are delighted our work in this area has been recognised.

"Active bodies support active minds and the broad and exciting range of physical activities we provide promote healthy lifestyles and boosts our children’s learning."

The school is part of the Severn Academies Educational Trust and Jacqui Elwis, director of primary education, added: "This is a truly well-deserved award. St Bart’s epitomises how our schools strive to provide enriching experiences for our children to grow and aspire to lead brilliant lives."
