NEARLY 200 current and past members gathered to mark 100 years of Bewdley Tennis Club.
The typical British weather could not dampen spirits as a centenary tournament and afternoon tea was followed by a group photo to mirror those that had been taken during significant years throughout the club’s history.
To mark the occasion, Bewdley mayor Ian Latimer joined the club’s president and chair along with LTA Lifetime Achievement Award winner Dr Jenny Frow.
Dr Frow was awarded a British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours List earlier this year.
They cut a celebration cake which was created by one of the club’s members.
The Stourport Road club is a not-for-profit organisation which is run by the club members as volunteers.
It was founded in 1924 and officially opened on June 14 that year, Bewdley has coaching schemes which are run for new starters or those wishing to return to tennis.
The club boasts seven floodlit courts at its headquarters with a variety of surfaces.
It organises mix-in sessions for women, men and mixed tennis as well as a dedicated junior night.
