THE historic Wolverley Carnival returned on the weekend to delight visitors to the village.
The carnival took place on Saturday, July 6 and featured a parade, entertainment and stalls.
The first Wolverley Carnival dates back to the 1940s, which consisted of Morris dancing and pickled onion peeling.
The event took a break but in 1996 the carnival was rebooted following the success of the VE & VJ 50th Anniversary in 1995.
The day is a hinge pin to assist other local organisations also raising funds and bringing business to the area.
A parade of colour travelled through the village on the day.
Despite the wet weather, the parade was "better than ever," according to organisers. This year’s parade winner was Kingsford Social Club.
This year’s royalty was carnival queen Lyra Brookes, princess Trinity Phoenix Watkis and rosebud Lilah Rose Taylor.
This year’s Warren Jones community trophy was awarded to Maria Love of Wolverley Football Club, she is an advocate for all football including girls's and women’s football as well as Sen Stars that offer children with communication, learning or sensory needs a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment to enjoy and learn to play football.
Bliss Gate Dogs Training and Jamie-Lee Dance Academy took to the arena to showcase their latest performances.
Chairperson Julie Hicks has thanked everyone on the committee and those who helped in the lead-up to the day and the day itself.
The carnival motto is “we aim to bring the community together and out on a great day whilst creating memories that last a lifetime and that can be passed down the generations”.
