THE construction firm refurbishing Kidderminster Town Hall has issued a statement after a worker died following a medical emergency.

Speller Metcalfe has said that a site operative died on-site at the town hall project yesterday (July 18), and that it appears to have been due to "natural causes".

Bystanders gave basic life support to the man and used a defibrillator before ambulance crews took over to carry out advanced life support.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said that "despite everyone’s best efforts, he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene".

A spokesperson for Speller Metcalfe said: “We are extremely saddened to confirm a site operative died on-site at our Kidderminster Town Hall project yesterday. This appears to have been due to natural causes.

"Speller Metcalfe places the highest value on the welfare of our employees and we offer our most sincere condolences to the family of the project team member.”
