A FORMER district councillor and school governor, who was "greatly admired and respected," has died aged 84.
Philip Green, who lived in Franche, Kidderminster, previously served as a Wyre Forest District Councillor and as the local Conservative group leader.
Born in 1940, he was raised and educated in Liverpool and was a "diehard" supporter of Liverpool Football Club even after his re-location to the Midlands in the 1970s.
He was a regular traveller up and down the M6 motorway in support of his club and for family, visiting right up until his death earlier this month on July 8.
Mr Green spent his career with several insurance companies and came to the Midlands as regional managing director and board director of Sedgwick UK Ltd.
Mr Green later became a school governor on his arrival in Kidderminster from 1976 onwards and held that office at three separate schools starting at Harry Cheshire High School, then on to Wolverley High School and finally at Franche Middle School where he was chairman for 12 years.
He became a Wyre Forest District Councillor in 1976 for St Johns Ward, which was split into the Habberley ward and Franche ward, for six years, and Conservative group leader for one year following his previous four years as deputy group leader.
In 2000, Mr Green became chairman of Wyre Forest Conservative Association.
He also enjoyed much of his free time on the golf course at Kidderminster Golf Club and was seniors captain before health problems prevented his continued enjoyment of the sport. Phil was also a Freemason and member of the Wyre Forest Lodge for 13 years until 2004.
His family said he was "greatly admired and respected by all who knew him and for all he achieved in everything that he undertook throughout his life".
Mr Green leaves his wife Jean, son Richard and daughter Deborah and four grandchildren, Louis, Jamie, Oscar and Finn.
The funeral service is to be held on Wednesday, July 31 at 3.30pm at Wyre Forest Crematorium.
