A COUNTY school raised awareness of a leukaemia battle for one of its pupils with a fundraising event.

King Charles I School hosted a ‘HunRun’ to raise money for Worcestershire Royal Hospital where year nine pupil Hunnie Morris is being treated.

Hunnie has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

She fought leukaemia previously when she was only eight years old.

Hunnie finished her treatment and was given the all-clear in 2020 after a long battle.

But the teenager was then diagnosed again this year just before her 14th birthday during a routine appointment.

She is now going through life-saving chemotherapy once again at the Worcester hospital.

A spokesperson for the Kidderminster-based school said the team at the hospital was giving Hunnie a tremendous amount of support and had been building her spirits during ongoing treatments.

They added Dawn Forbes, who is part of the team, has given Hunnie a meaningful and personal approach to hospital visits and chemotherapy which has made her feel more positive throughout the process.

The school is also supporting the family in any way possible.

The HunRun event, organised by the pastoral and tutor teams, was held to raise money and awareness for not only leukaemia but the devastating impact childhood illnesses have on young people, their families and the community.

All students took part in the charity fun run on Friday, July 5 with Hunnie’s favourite colours of orange and pink being the theme.

She also created the playlist for the event.

The spokesperson added the money raised will be be sent to the hospital to directly impact the incredible work the team do to support young people.
