Fire crews successfully contained a large blaze that had started to spread across grassland in Clows Top over the weekend. 

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Wyre Forest Fire Station were called at around 5.32pm on Saturday (July 27) to reports of a fire in the open on Tenbury Road. 

The fire involved an articulated lorry trailer containing timber which fire crews said was destroyed in the blaze.

The fire had started to spread toward grassland and trees in the area. 

Fire crews successfully extinguished the blaze using two hose reel jets. There were no casualties reported.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crew from Wyre Forest Fire Station was called at 5.32pm on 27 July to a fire in the open on Tenbury Road, Clows Top.

"The fire involved an articulated lorry trailer containing timber, which was destroyed by fire.

"The fire, which also spread to 400 sq m of grassland was extinguished using two hose reel jets. There were no casualties. The incident was marked as pending closure at 6.51pm."

West Mercia Police were also in attendance and said they received a call at around 4.30pm on Saturday with a report of criminal damage to a property. 

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We received a call around 4.30pm on Saturday (July 27) with a report of criminal damage at a property on Tenbury Road in Clows Top.

"Officers attended the incident, and no criminal damage was seen but two fires were found which required the fire service to assist with."

An eyewitness said the black smoke from the fire could be seen from the next village and the fire was spreading "uncontrollably" towards the trees. 

They added: "It caused quite a commotion for a small village."
