A holiday park business has donated £1,000 towards supporting a rugby player from Bromsgrove following his devastating diagnosis.

The owners of holiday homes at Pearl Lake Country Park in Shobdon were asked to nominate a charity that they would like to see benefit from the company's 25th anniversary pledge.

One holiday home owner from Stourport-on-Severn, Estelle Hackett, nominated a charity close to her heart.

She said: "The manager of my nursery business has been devastated by her brother's recent diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease and we want to do anything we can to help.

"Glenn and Hannah Jones' generous pledge to mark Pearl Lake's silver anniversary led to my nomination."

A crowdfunder was set up to help 43-year-old Scott Morris, a father to a young family and member of Bromsgrove Rugby Club, after he was diagnosed with MND.

The club's manager and his best friend Martin Lakeman have been raising money continuously since the shock diagnosis.

He said: "Imagine waking up one morning and being diagnosed with a condition that has no cure.

"We as a rugby family are pulling together to raise money to highlight the devastating impact of MND through the MND Association and through fundraising via crowdfunding to ensure that Scott and his family can seize every moment.

"The original target was £50,000 but it has exceeded that very quickly and is currently up to £85,000 following numerous fundraising events over the past year which are still in full flow."

Glenn Jones, managing director of Discover Parks, added: "It's a debilitating disease that's been brought to our attention again recently with the passing of rugby's Rob Burrows.

"We are thankful to Estelle for highlighting Scott's situation. He sounds like an incredible guy and our thoughts are with him and his young family."
