A teenager has been spotted carrying a “possible weapon” in a supermarket in Stourport.

West Mercia Police said they were called to reports of a male, who was with two other males, running around with a metal instrument.

Officers said they were chasing each other through the store.

The incident happened at the Tesco store in Stourport this afternoon (Friday, August 2) at around 4.30pm.

The male is described as white, aged around 16 to 17, of slim build with brown hair and wearing black shoes, black tracksuit bottoms, a bright orange top and a bag with a red and black strap.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Police also believe that the weapon was a short pole and disputed rumours on social media that the weapon was a “machete type instrument”.

Inspector Lisa Hornberger, of Wyre Forest Police, said: “We were called to reports of a male who was with two other males running around Tesco believed to be carrying a weapon this evening.

“We would like to reassure the public that, working with the store, it has been confirmed to us this is believed to be a short pole of some description and not a machete type instrument which has been rumoured on social media.

“We do not believe there is any wider risk to the public and are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward and help us identify this person and/or the people he was with so they can help us with our enquiries.
