A lucky eight-month-old puppy has miraculously survived a horror car crash with an impact speed of 130mph.

Kidderminster couple Leigh Fuller and Callum O'Reilly were taking their 'Sprockerdor' puppy Trevor on his first beach trip when they were involved in a serious collision on Bridgnorth Road.

The couple said an oncoming car sped around a blind corner and hit them with an impact speed of 130mph writing off all the cars involved.

Ms Fuller said: "While Callum called the emergency services, I rushed to get Trevor. I unclipped his seatbelt and got him out of the car.

"I couldn't believe he was all okay just understandably shaking and scared."

The couple believe the dog harness Trevor was wearing potentially saved his life and are now trying to raise awareness for pet safety whilst travelling.

Ms Fuller had only picked up the crash impact-tested dog harness from the Pets at Home Kidderminster branch three days before the crash.

The couple decided to buy it as a last-minute decision before the trip as they felt Trevor wasn't secure enough in his previous set-up.

Ms Fuller said: "If we hadn't bought that harness, on top of all the trauma of the whole situation, we could have lost Trevor.

"The 3 Peaks harness undoubtedly saved his life. I wrote a post on Instagram to help spread awareness about keeping your dog safe and secure when travelling in a car as I know people who don't restrain their dogs at all.

"Unfortunately, I've now been in a crash myself where the harness has been put to the test. Buying it was one of the best things that we did."

The couple and Trevor all escaped the collision with minor injuries and are now recovering at home, but with 2.6 million dogs expected to join owners on holiday this summer, vets have issued some top advice.

Dr Samantha Butler-Davies MRCVS, Veterinary Services Director at Pets at Home, said owners should "resist the temptation to let their dog move around the car".

Owners should also use the right harness size for their dog, consider a travel crate and make sure pets are secured on the back seat.

She has also advised that cats remain at home with a sitter or at a licensed cattery as they "thrive in the security of their own homes and might find travelling stressful".
