Residents have had their say on plans to open a new KFC in the former Frankie and Benny's building.
According to plans submitted to Wyre Forest District Council, KFC will be opening a new restaurant branch at the Pump House.
The historic building was previously home to Frankie and Benny's before it permanently closed in 2020 with the owners deeming the branch "not financially viable".
A planning application was previously submitted by LCP Retail Limited earlier this year to divide the Pump House into two new units for a tanning salon and a restaurant/takeaway.
Although the businesses moving into the premises were not confirmed at the time, an application outlining the extraction details for the site revealed plans for the KFC.
Kidderminster BID manager James Barker said: "We think it's fantastic news for the area. The building has been empty since Covid so it's great that the space is going to be filled and it also means more localised employment.
"At a time when big chains are making risk assessments across the UK and choosing to shut down some branches, it is a really positive sign that KFC recognises Kidderminster as a thriving town.
"Some people have questioned the decision to have another KFC in the area, but this is exactly what chains like Nando's, Primark and Costco want to see. They want to see the majority of town centre buildings being filled and for this to be more than just vape shops.
"KFC coming to the area is something we should all be celebrating especially after B&M recently moved into the old Debenham's building. It is the first time we have had a flagship store and it is a step in the right direction for the town.
Following the news, residents also took to social media to share their reactions to the plans for KFC with many expressing concerns over increased traffic in the car park.
Pauline Beech said: "That will do wonders for the traffic chaos that is already caused by McDonald's."
Mike Heeley said: "Loved Frankie and Benny's. Gutted when it closed but I agree we could do with a Nando's."
Holly Ann added: "Make it into a live music venue or a nice bar not another fast food place."
But many also welcomed the news and the prospect of more jobs in the area.
Casey Evans said: "I love KFC, but I did hope it was going to be a Nando’s or something different. Although, it is going to give people job opportunities and having a KFC in town also has its benefits as well."
Dave Shaverin said: "Whatever it is, it is going to give people jobs. If people don’t like KFC then just don’t go there.
