A TOWN church is hosting a flower festival to help mark its 200th anniversary.
St George’s, Kidderminster, is a grade two-listed ‘Waterloo’ church built after the famous battle and consecrated in September 1824.
It was rebuilt after being gutted by a fire in 1922.
Located close to the centre of Kidderminster in Radford Avenue, the tower can be seen for miles around.
To commemorate this historic 200-year milestone the church is hosting a flower festival for the whole community to enjoy.
There will be more than 20 floral displays, including a variety of designs and colours.
Each display will be based on a theme and a hymn chosen by the flower arranger which will be in memory of a loved one.
The church will be open to visitors from 10am until 3pm on Thursday, September 12 to Saturday, September 14.
Refreshments will be available and served by members of the congregation with no charge for visiting the festival.
To celebrate this historical event there will be a church service on Sunday, September 15 at 10am where the Bishop of Dudley will be presiding.
All are welcome.
There will also be an art display from Arts etc, a non-profit making organisation based in Kidderminster offering creative, cultural opportunities to those who might not otherwise be able to access them.
This enables people to build confidence and improve their well-being. The art group runs every Friday from 10am until 12 noon at the church where everyone is welcome.
There will also be a display of artefacts and pictures from 200 years of St George’s chapel and church.
This includes items that have never been seen before which will be of interest to Kidderminster people.
