Three opticians in Kidderminster and Stourport have announced their support of a community foodbank.
The Specsavers stores in the Swan Centre and Sainsbury’s in Kidderminster and another on the High Street in Stourport - are inviting customers and the community to donate food in aid of National Foodbank Day.
The plan is to collect the non-perishable food items and toiletries throughout the whole of September and donate them to Kidderminster Foodbank at the end of the month.
With one in five people in the UK living below the poverty line, the Specsavers team is encouraging as many people as possible to get involved.
Emma Singh, the director of all three stores, said: "Foodbanks all over the country are experiencing extremely high demand as so many individuals are struggling to put food on the table.
"With food being something that people often first neglect when household budgets are stretched, we want to support those who are struggling in our community by inviting members of the public to join us in our efforts to donate as much as we can to Kidderminster Foodbank."
Anyone willing to donate can do so within official working hours, whether they are a regular customer or not.
Donations can be dropped off at any of the stores.
