A popular tribute act is set to host a fundraising night for a "beautiful, loving and caring" mum from Kidderminster following her devastating diagnosis.

Katy Smith, aged 41, was initially diagnosed with ocular cancer and lost vision in her right eye eight years ago.

Despite thinking she had the all-clear, the cancer has returned for a second time but metastasised in her liver.

The mum-of-one, who has been described as "incredibly caring" by her friends and family, has since had the difficult news that her cancer is very rare and inoperable.

She now faces gruelling immunotherapy treatment with the hope of being able to go on a clinical trial.

A call out to tradespeople and a GoFundMe was previously set up to help decorate Katy's new home after her previous landlord decided to sell up, but it will now be used to raise money to complete a bucket list with her son Jack.

Her friend Catherine Bratton said: "Since we put the initial call out for tradespeople to help with the house, we have been inundated with messages and offers of support as well as donations.

"There has been a bit of a delay in getting the keys to the house as it is in such disrepair, but we are hoping to get started as soon as possible. We have plasterers, paint and decorators, carpenters, carpet fitters and motorcycle clubs offering their time and donations.

"The list is endless and Katy is so grateful and overwhelmed by the support from the community both financially and emotionally.

"The news Katy got about her diagnosis isn't what we were hoping for but we are not losing hope. Katy is a loving and caring mum who would do anything for anybody. She is so positive and a joy to be around.

"We are now focused on helping Katy tick off her bucket list with her son Jack and all tickets from the fundraising night will go towards the GoFundMe."

The Con Jovi tribute night, which has been generously organised by band members Carl Wilkes and James Boyle, will take place at 45Live on Saturday (September 14).

The night is set to be full of fun and entertainment with a raffle also being organised which has already had more than 50 prizes donated by local businesses.

This includes a Slimming World hamper, a family ticket to Hartlebury Castle, gift vouchers for The Cavalier/Smash My Patty, The Station Inn, Weavers Park Lane and Kelly's Beautiful Glow, gym passes, wax melt hampers and more.

Ms Bratton added: "Katy has a fantastic support network of her friends and family and she is documenting her journey to help others. We are all praying for her as she is such a beautiful person.

"Her immunotherapy treatment is currently on hold as it has made her very ill, but we are hoping it can pick up again soon and she can start working on her bucket list and might even get the chance to go on a trial.

"We are so grateful to Carl and James for offering to put on the tribute night at no cost to us. It will be a fantastic night and we are encouraging everyone in the community to come and get involved."

Tickets cost £7 including the booking free with all proceeds going towards Katy's GoFundMe.
