A TEAM of maths teachers are hoping to make high numbers when they step out to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society’s nationwide Memory Walk on Saturday (September 14)

Nine colleagues from The Stourport High School and Vlth Form College are being sponsored to take part in the charity’s 5km walk at Birmingham’s Sutton Park.

Head of maths Richard Higginson, whose father-in-law suffers from the disease and teacher Liz Daniels, whose late father was also a sufferer, raised £1,600 in 2023 and this year hope to smash their total with support from the rest of the faculty.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so at the Stourport maths team’s JustGiving page, https://justgiving.com/team/stourportmathsteam

Mr Higginson said: “We want to raise as much money as we can for this amazing charity and its relentless effort to find a cure for this horrific illness.

“Watching your loved one become more and more severely affected is like watching them die time and again. It’s horrendous for them their family and friends.

“This is why we are determined to raise further funds and Liz and I were overwhelmed when our colleagues said they’d walk with us this year, with other staff being quick to donate.

“By the start of this week, we’d already raised almost £1,400 demonstrating what a close-knit and caring staff we have at Stourport High.”
