A West Midlands grunge/alt-rock trio are set to follow the release of their latest single with a gig in Worcester.

Mary’s Lye, from Bromsgrove, Kidderminster, and Stourport, has announced the release of their latest single 'Forever Girl' on Saturday, September 21.

The band is made up of Michael Thompson (vocals/guitar), Harry Anson (drums), and Georgie Lane (bass guitar).

Since forming in late 2023, the trio has made a name for themselves as an originals-only band that refuses to perform covers.

The group draws inspiration from a variety of influences, from the heavy riffs of Led Zeppelin to the raw energy of Nirvana.

Their latest track marks a slight shift in their sound, offering a more upbeat, melodic tune.

Thompson explained: "It's more upbeat than our previous releases and is one of the only songs we play in an out-and-out major key.

"I dare say one could call it grunge pop.

"It was, weirdly, inspired by Leonard Cohen's 'That's No Way to Say Goodbye' and The Who's 'Glow Girl'—two very different songs."

The band has been active in the Midlands music scene, performing at various events and festivals, including the Custom Rock and Blues Festival in Derby.

They have also released two EPs, Matter of Medication and What Happens in the Underparts, both available on major streaming platforms.

Their upcoming album, recorded at Load Street Studios and produced by Rob Groucutt, is set to be released later this year.

Fans can look forward to more of the band's blues-infused grunge style.

The band will perform at Spin the Black Circle on Friday, October 4, with another gig at 45 Live in Kidderminster on Thursday, October 24.
