KIND-hearted maths teachers smashed their target, raising more than £2,300 in the nationwide Memory Walk for the Alzheimer’s Society, last Saturday (September 14).
The nine colleagues from The Stourport High School and Vlth Form College who took part in the charity’s 5k walk at Birmingham’s Sutton Park were “overwhelmed” by the support.
Head of maths Richard Higginson, whose father-in-law suffers from the disease, said: “So far, we’ve raised more than £600 above our goal which is amazing and shows what a caring and supportive community we have here at Stourport.
“So many people are affected by this dreadful disease and we have been overwhelmed by the response to our fundraiser.”
He and colleague Liz Daniels, whose late father was also a sufferer, took part in last year’s Memory Walk, raising £1,600, and were delighted when the rest of the faculty offered to walk with them this year.
With £2,332 collected so far, the team’s JustGiving page at https://justgiving.com/team/stourportmathsteam is still open for donations.
