A major plan to refurbish a park in Kidderminster and open a café on the site has been approved after a new application was submitted.

The application, which was submitted by Wyre Forest District Council, will see the Sons of Rest Pavilion extended to house a new café, improvements to pedestrian entrances, the recreation of an ornamental lake and toilet block refurbishments.

The proposal was originally approved back in 2020 but revised plans were submitted earlier this year as the scope of the proposed works have been reduced.

This includes changes to plans for the café which will be now housed in an extended Sons of Rest Pavilion rather than in a new building.

The existing toilets will also be retained and refurbished and the pavilion will also act as an activity space.

Works to the nursery area in the park have now been removed from the project as well as improvement plans to the car park which are "no longer in the scope of the project".

A new one-way system in and out of the car park will also be provided.

In the heritage statement on the planning portal, the council said: "Planning approval was granted in June 2020 for works at Brinton Park aiming to restore and conserve the park’s historic and natural heritage.

"Since this planning approval was granted, the scope of the proposed works at the park has been reduced."

The development of the park is set to be sympathetic to the character of the park and aimed at providing a "sense of pride" in returning existing structures to their "former magnificence".

The statement added: "The development of the park and the proposed buildings have been designed to be sympathetic to the character of the park. The development has been designed to fit with the historic rationale of a series of small structures and pavilions in the landscape.

"Any proposed buildings have been designed to be modest and in keeping with the scale of the Park.

"The restoration and improvements to existing structures and pavilions within the park will provide a sense of pride and return them to their former magnificence."

Plans for the park refurbishment were officially approved on Monday (September 23).
