Four opticians in Worcestershire are appealing for gift-filled shoebox donations.

The opticians, all part of the Specsavers chain, are supporting the Operation Christmas Child initiative, a charity initiative run by the UK-based organisation, Samaritan’s Purse.

The charity is an international relief and development organisation providing aid to disadvantaged communities in Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Specsavers Droitwich, Kidderminster and Stourport have all become collection points for the cause.

The opticians are encouraging staff, customers, and the community to participate by filling a shoebox with essential items and treats for youngsters who may be left without presents this festive season.

Labels are available in each store to help identify the age and gender of the child the box is intended for.

Emma Singh, store director at all four stores, said: "Our teams have already made up a number of gift-filled shoeboxes and we have a collection box in the store for anyone who wants to make a donation.

"We’re hoping to send as many boxes as we can this year so we’d be really grateful for your support."

Donations will be accepted until Monday, November 11 to ensure the shoeboxes reach their recipients in time for Christmas.
