A PLAN to convert a town centre building into a new house in multiple occupation (HMO) has been given the green light.
An application was submitted to Wyre Forest District Council seeking consent for the change of use of the rear of 9 and 9a Lower Mill Street in Kidderminster to a HMO.
The submitted plans show that the existing shop unit, which was previously a pharmacy, at the front will be retained, with a conversion of the remainder of the building into six new studio units located on the ground and first floors.
The plan was approved by the local authority earlier this month, with the planning officer highlighting that plan would provide "much-needed" homes.
The planning officer said: "The proposed development would provide much-needed housing and would ensure the long-term viable use of a vacant building in a sustainable town centre location.
"The size and layout of the proposed residential accommodation is considered to be acceptable and would provide an acceptable living environment for future occupiers.
"The proposed commercial units on the ground floor would retain an active shop front onto Mill Street and the proposed scheme therefore represents sustainable development and would accord with relevant local and national planning policies".
