A SIXTH form college in Stourport is opening its doors for prospective students to see what is offered – including the chance to join its sporting academy.
Alongside A-level and BTEC courses, The Stourport High School and Vlth Form College offers elite coaching programmes in rugby, basketball and netball.
The school is developing as a centre of sporting excellence, having added netball this year to its established rugby and basketball programmes, which attract students entering Year 12 from a wide area.
Dr Lizzy Ford, acting headteacher, said: “This is a unique offer in our part of the world and is aimed at providing the best opportunities for young people looking for careers as professional players or in sports’ industries.”
The school boasts top class facilities with the latest 4G sports pitches, a national standard basketball arena and access to a netball dome, along with other sporting facilities.
Assistant principal Angela Parker, head of Vlth form, added: “I am incredibly proud of last year’s Year 13 students, with 100 per cent gaining their first-choice university place.
“Our Vlth formers have their own recently-built college on our campus and we are looking forward to showing visitors our wonderful facilities, the wide range of courses on offer, our fantastic careers programme and excellent pastoral support.”
Prospective students looking to move into Year 12 next September, and their families, are invited to the open evening on Thursday October 24, from 5pm until 7pm. No booking is required.
