A hairdresser from Kidderminster has been left "shocked" and "appalled" after a man vandalised his salon door by hammering on it with brick.

Ollie Swain, who owns Mars and Venus Hair Salon on Burcher Green, said he couldn't believe it when he saw footage of a man hitting his shop door with a brick for over 20 minutes in broad daylight.

The vandalism, which happened at around 9am yesterday (Wednesday, October 9), has left his door bent in and badly damaged.

The 45-year-old said: "If someone had told me it happened at 3am, I wouldn't have been surprised, but I am so shocked that it happened in broad daylight. Kids were walking past on their way to school and there was a pensioner's coffee morning at the nearby church.

"It is just horrendous and appalling to think how many people could have witnessed what he was doing. I think people were too scared to stop him. It took a very brave young schoolgirl to start taking photos of him to get him to stop.

"I was stuck in traffic following a crash so I wasn't in the shop at the time, but I'm just relieved that nobody was hurt."

Mr Swain said he is not sure why his salon was targeted as there is nothing of value left in the shop and most customers now pay by card.

He believes it was a random attack and called the blatancy of the crime "beyond belief".

He added: "Police are investigating the incident and we have CCTV footage of the man. I just find it so bizarre that this can happen at that time of the day.

"The blatancy of the crime is beyond belief. You know vandalism happens to businesses, but you really don't expect it to happen to you."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We received a call at around 9.35am on Wednesday (October 9) of a report of a burglary and criminal damage at an address on Burcher Green in Kidderminster.

"Enquiries are now ongoing into this incident."
