A Kidderminster care home and primary school have teamed up to celebrate the Harvest Festival.

Residents at Care UK's Brook Court on Oldnall Road were joined by children from Comberton Primary School for an afternoon of learning and fun.

The event focused on understanding the origins of the Harvest Festival, its relevance in today's society, and the importance of preserving the tradition.

The residents and children also shared Harvest Festival-themed poetry and songs.

The care home's residents and staff are encouraging the community to donate non-perishable food items to a new food bank drop-off point at the care home.

The food bank, which will support Kidderminster Food Bank, will be operational at Brook Court until Thursday, October 31.

One resident said: "It was lovely to see the children bringing in their donations to support our local community."

Shirley Summerbell, the care home's manager, said: "We’re delighted to have partnered with Kidderminster Food Bank and welcomed Comberton Primary School children to Brook Court to explore the importance of the Harvest Festival.

"Harvest Festival is a day in the calendar where we can reflect and show gratitude for the food that we have, while serving as an opportunity to encourage people to donate unwanted or unused items, and connect with others, regardless of age or background.

"Everyone had an a-maize-ing day and we’re already looking forward to our next event with Comberton Primary School children as we race towards Christmas."

The care home provides full-time residential, nursing, and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.

The care home, which has 67 en-suite bedrooms, is designed to help residents live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence.

It has space for hobby and leisure activities and has its own cinema, hairdressing salon, and café.
