A statue of the beloved Paddington Bear has been unveiled in Birmingham today.
From Friday, October 11, visitors can take a seat next to the marmalade-loving bear and enjoy a sandwich or two of their own at Medicine Terrace at Selfridges in the Bullring Shopping Centre.
Birmingham is one of 23 locations across the UK and Ireland that features in Paddington Visits, a project ran by filmmakers, STUDIOCANAL, ahead of the release of ‘Paddington in Peru’ in cinemas on November 8.
Sam Watson, Chair of Central BID, said: “We are so excited to have the nation’s favourite bear and his bench in the city centre.
“We love everything about Paddington and this gives everyone the chance to come into Birmingham and have a perfect selfie with him from now until Christmas.”
Paddington’s third appearance on the big screen will see him travel to his homeland of Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy, now a resident of the Home for Retired Bears.
Accompanied by the Brown Family and Mrs Bird, the gang embark on a thrilling adventure through the Amazon rainforest to the mountain peaks of Peru.
Speaking about the Paddington Visits initiative, Actor Hugh Bonneville, who plays Mr. Brown in the film, said: “I am thrilled to reveal we are going to be unveiling a number of benches across the UK, all featuring a statue of our beloved bear.
“Ahead of the new film, fans, families and friends can sit down and have a chat with the marmalade loving bear, so watch this space for more information about Paddington… coming to a bench near you!”
