A MAJOR planning application for the 1450-home Woven Oaks development has been given the green light.

A meeting of Wyre Forest District Council's planning committee was held on Tuesday evening (October 15), to decide whether permission should be granted for the controversial application.

Taylor Wimpey submitted a hybrid application, which includes outline planning permission for up to 1,055 homes, off Comberton Road in Kidderminster, including affordable housing, a community hub, a primary school, community facilities, commercial units, a care home, new vehicular access to Husum Way and Comberton Road with link road, new pedestrian access to Tennyson Way, and a play area.

It also includes a full planning application for the demolition of 78 Comberton Road and agricultural buildings north of Heathy Mill Farm, to make way for the construction of 395 dwellings including affordable housing.

More than 500 people have objected to the Woven Oaks development since the application was submitted to the local authority in March 2022.

Residents raised a range of issues with the plan, with a primary concern being traffic congestion and traffic safety fears on Husum Way.

During the meeting, councillor Alan Sutton moved a motion for approval, which was seconded by councillor Ben Brookes.

Councillor Fran Oborski moved a motion for refusal and urged members to reject the application, warning the development would cause "ongoing chaos" into the future. Councillor Liam Carrol also voted to refuse the application.

The motion for approval was carried following a vote by councillors.
