Flood barriers have been deployed in Bewdley with river levels predicted to rise over the next few days.

There is a flood alert in place for the town due to rising river levels following the heavy rainfall that hit Worcestershire last night (Wednesday, October 16).

The Environment Agency said there is a rise of flooding to roads and farmland today (Thursday, October 17) with residents urged to stay away from low-lying footpaths near local watercourses.

The River Severn is expected to peak between 4m and 4.5m on Saturday (October 19).

Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected today (Thursday, October 17).

"We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent the river from Highley to Tewkesbury. Locations affected are Stourport, Holt Fleet, Worcester, Kempsey, Severn Stoke and Upton upon Severn, B4195 Stourport Road at Rickets Place, Dog Lane Bewdley, Riverside Path Stourport and B4194 at Ribbesford."

Further rainfall is forecast over the weekend so the Environment Agency said they expect river levels to remain high for the next few days.

They added: "We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences, and liaising with emergency services and or Local Authorities.

"Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses."
